Munakh (مناخ)

Munakh, meaning “climate” in Arabic, is an initiative launched under the slogan Journey to Climate Consciousness with the vision of taking sustainable steps forward and raising awareness on climate issues in Sharjah and the wider UAE. Recognizing that many individuals and communities are still building awareness and habits around sustainability, Munakh focuses on fostering climate consciousness through a series of panels, trips, and community events designed to educate, inspire, and mobilize action.

The initiative is supported by a strong network of collaborators, including The Wildlife Focus, Tawazoun, Shajar Nursery, AUS Office of Sustainability, Earth Warriorz, and ExtremeHangout, alongside other community partners. We are actively working towards expanding our network with sustainability experts and entities both locally and globally.

So far, Munakh has successfully conducted its first large-scale event in collaboration with the Pakistan Youth Forum, The Wildlife Focus (led by our hub member Erfan Firouzi), and Earth Warriorz. The event featured a panel discussion titled Biodiversity and Climate Action, which highlighted humanity’s responsibility in shaping the environment. Our Outgoing Curator, Khadijah Ali, emphasized how every small step can contribute to a larger impact, while Erfan Firouzi not only moderated the panel and gave an inspiring talk on the irreplaceable value of biodiversity, but also moved the audience with an opera performance that deepened their emotional connection to the Earth. This event left a powerful impression, sparking awareness and appreciation for environmental action among attendees.

To measure impact, we conduct surveys after each event, with plans to compare responses between one-time attendees and regular participants to better understand the long-term effectiveness of its programming. In the short term, we aim to increase awareness, curiosity, and personal commitment to sustainability among youth and community members. Munakh seeks to build a culture of climate consciousness in Sharjah, empower youth-led environmental advocacy, and create stronger connections between individuals, nature, and local climate movements.
